2012 Mania

April 11, 2010

We’ve done a lot of middle school visits this year and the kids keep asking us about 2012. The movie 2012 seems to have freaked alot of them out. They’re very excited about the usual apocalyptic stuff (the end of the world, earth crust displacement, magnetic pole shift, etc).   So we’ve put together a presentation about 2012 to try and answer all their questions.  It’s a wild ride through some of the crack-pot ideas you find on the internet (like this video from the 2012 movie) and explains what the Maya really thought would happen in December 2012.

Though nicely animated this 2012 video is completely bogus.

Freaky… I’m one of the kids who is burst-into-tears afraid of the movie 2012. I started crying when I saw that. Is it really true? Will that really happen? I hope not.

No, nothing that you saw in the 2012 movie is true. The planets don’t align in 2012 (not that anything would happen if they did) and the concept of neutrinos melting the earth’s core is something the film-makers invented which could never, ever happen. A good website which looks at and debunks all the 2012 nonsense is http://www.2012hoax.org
